Our Story
Structural Steel Works, Inc., (SSW) was founded by Engineer José Aguayo in March, 1968. Like many US fabricators, the company began as a one-stop-shop fabricating miscellaneous steel and erecting small structures. In subsequent years the company’s growth paralleled an increasing demand for steel as a building material in Puerto Rico, a market previously dominated by reinforced concrete. By the early 1980’s SSW had grown into a 30,000 square foot shop, and had established itself as one of the most reputable steel contractors on the island.
Soon after, the arrival of Eng. Juan Carlos Aguayo and Maricarmen Aguayo to SSW's management team in the late 1980's would further foment a period of reorganization and development. A new era of progress begun for the company, basing itself on the strong infrastructure cultivated by José Aguayo.
Today, Juan Carlos and Maricarmen, as President and Vice President respectively, continue their father’s legacy through hard work and dedication. SSW now amasses a massive and state-of-the-art 140,000 square foot manufacturing facility, making it one of the biggest locally-owned companies in Puerto Rico.
This family-owned company, once a one-stop-shop for steel materials, has become the leading steel manufacturer in the Caribbean, and remains since its inception the standard for quality of steel fabrication, installation, and sales in Puerto Rico.
